Sweden (officially: Kingdom of Sweden) is a constitutional monarchy on the eastern portion of the Scandinavian peninsula.

It is a member state of the European Union (EU).

Since 1814, Sweden has been at peace, adopting a non-aligned foreign policy in peacetime, and neutrality in wartime.

In the twentieth century, Sweden emerged as a welfare state; it usually ranks among the top countries in the United Nation's human development index.

Sweden is an export-oriented market economy, featuring a modern distribution system, excellent internal and external communications, and a skilled labour force. Its industry is overwhelmingly in private control.

At this moment, Sweden is the thirtieth largest economy of the world.
